The Special General Meeting of the Guyana Public Service Co-operative Credit Union did not go on as planned on Monday as Members of the financial institution failed to show up forcing the cancellation.
The day before the meeting, the team headed by Former Chairman of the Credit Union, Trevor Benn urged members to stay away from the meeting, since the Committee of Management was not following the orders of the High Court.
There was only one polling station for the elections, although the credit union has members in all ten regions
Less than 25 members showed up at the New Central High School for the meeting and elections.
After members failed to show up, the incumbent Chairperson dissolved the meeting for lack of a quorum.
“Members, this meeting was convened on the demand of members of the Guyana Public Service Co-operative Credit Union, it was convened at 8:00hrs and dissolved at 9:10hrs today, October 24, 2022 for lack of quorum,” the Chairwoman said.
The twelve-member team headed by former Chairman Trevor Benn pulled out from the contest over the week after both sides received a correspondence from the Judge stating that the meeting ought to follow the orders of the Court.
Mr. Benn and his team had complained that the Court order was breached.
The current Chairman has indicated that business as usual has resumed at the Credit Union and she explained that her committee followed the Court’s order.
Although, the Court order still stands, the Chairman could not say whether there will be another run off elections soon.
