Proceedings in the Fort Wellington Magistrates’ Court came to halt today when the woman accused of murdering her own mother, collapsed in the Courthouse.
42-year-old Camilia Jameer appeared dazed as she appeared before the Magistrate and was charged with the murder of her 69-year-old mother, Rookmin Jameer.
Just after the charge was read, the accused fainted, forcing the Magistrate to adjourn the hearing. She was taken out of the Courtroom as a date was being set for her next appearance. She has been remanded.
The Prosecution’s case is that last Friday at the family’s West Coast Berbice home, Camilia Jameer, slashed her mother’s throat and left her to die on the floor.
The woman later alerted the Police and told them that she discovered the body after returning from Church.
She became a suspect after it was revealed by relatives to investigators, that days before the murder, the woman had allegedly threatened the mother after being accused of stealing the mother’s money. The two were also involved in a fight.
Investigators believe it is that fallout that led to the murder.
