Newly sworn in Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Valerie Adams-Patterson has indicated that as the new Minister responsible for Housing, she intends to shake up the Housing department and make it better prepared to respond to the needs of Guyanese.
Ms. Patterson took the oath of office this morning in front of President David Granger, promising that better will come from the housing sector. She will also become a member of the cabinet.
“I am always a hard worker and I do not intend to stop now. I am promising the people of Guyana that better will come and that some of the objectives that we have and that we want to see become a reality, I will make it happen with the people who are there and I know I have their support”, she said.
Minister Patterson, who is also the Member of Parliament for Region 10, explained that she met with senior staff members of the Ministry yesterday and was brought up to date with initiatives of the Department of Housing.
She said she wants the Ministry to reach a stage soon where land applications are dealt with in an expeditious manner. The new Minister also intends to tackle the long backlog of house lot applications, hoping to ensure that the process for a house lot application would be completed within three months.
Ms. Patterson has considerable knowledge and experience in the area of administration and management and President David Granger today indicated that her experiences would have served as the driving force behind his decision to make her a Minister within the government and a member of the cabinet.
