The bodies of three Guyanese fishermen who were murdered at sea in neighbouring Suriname, have been recovered.
Thirteen others are still missing.
The identities of the bodies recovered are still to be confirmed. However, authorities in Suriname appear convinced that the bodies are of the Guyanese fishermen.
Sixteen fishermen went missing after they were attacked by pirates last week. Some who survived the attack have said that the pirates appeared to be Guyanese.
It is suspected that they were all thrown overboard by their attackers.
Family members of the fishermen from Guyana have traveled to neighbouring Suriname and are expected to assist in identifying the bodies that have so far been recovered.
News Source understands that Law enforcement officials from Guyana and Suriname have been in contact on the issue as the probe continues. There are calls for the Guyana Government to seek more information on the attack and be allowed to have Guyanese authorities play a bigger role in the investigations.
