Brazilian restaurant owner found dead in Regent St. restaurant

53-year-old Brazilian restaurant owner Beto Coutinho was found dead this afternoon at his Regent Street restaurant.

The man’s body was found hanging in the living quarters of his restaurant. The gruesome discovery was made by relatives and friends this afternoon after they became concerned that he had not been seen all day and his business remained closed.

One of his employees said several calls to the man’s phone went unanswered.

“I report to work at 6:30 this morning, first worker touching in and upon coming in this morning the door was not open as usual. Well, upon calling, calling no answer to the cell phone. We eventually give him a voice call and nothing, we didn’t get a response. Normally if he takes a little alcohol or whatever he would sleep: he doesn’t open for work. So, I say probably he took a few drinks and he is not working today. So, we left here about 8:30 this morning, but during the day we start calling, calling again, and still no response”, one of the employees, Carol Cheong told News Source.

She said it wasn’t until late this afternoon that they confirmed the man’s death after his body was discovered in his apartment.

They suspect that he may have taken his own life.

The Brazilian businessman who has been living in Guyana for several years is being remembered as a fun-loving person.

“Well, my Boss was friendly as normal…everyone got their bad and good ways but he was someone good”, the employee said.

A Police investigation is underway.
