Budget debate 2023 opens today

The debate of the 2023 National Budget opens this morning and is expected to wrap up by Friday night.

The start of the debates comes one week after the presentation of the $781.9 billion budget which focuses heavily on infrastructural works and development.

The Government has been on a media blitz in its defence of the budget. The President, the Prime Minister, the Vice President and the Minister of Finance have been leading various discussions on the budget, describing it as one that will not only transform lives, but one that will also transform communities and the country.

The Opposition has been hammering away at the budget and what it sees as the Government’s failure to cater enough for the rising cost of living and the country’s high inflation rate in the budget.

The Opposition has been calling for more measures to be implemented by the government that would see all citizens benefiting. Instead, the Opposition has said that the budget is one that is big on spending that will find its way into the pockets of family, friends and favourites of the government.
