Chief Justice Roxanne George will hand down her ruling on the PPP’s election case tomorrow deciding whether to direct the Elections Commission to return to verifying the Region 4 Results or allowing the results to stand as has been declared by the Returning Officer.
After listening to arguments from the Attorneys for the PPP and the Guyana Elections Commission. the Chief Justice indicated that she will make her ruling known at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon.
During the arguments, the Attorney for the PPP, Senior Counsel Douglas Mendes maintained his client’s position that the law was not properly followed for the verification of the results. He said all of the results were not verified, but he accepted that a declaration had been made by the Returning Officer.
He focused a large part of his arguments on the submission to the Court by the Returning Officer who explained how the process was done leading up to his absence because of ill health for some hours and how the process continued during that absence and when he returned.
GECOM’s Attorney Neil Boston in his arguments before the Court said while there might not have been full compliance in relation to verification, there was substantial compliance and a declaration could have been after that.
The Chief Justice quizzed both sides on their respective submissions, especially with regard to the statements of poll and those who were involved in the verification process.
