The Ministry of Health has announced that with effect from today, all persons 18-years and older will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccines.
The announcement was made last evening by the Advisor to the Minister of Health, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy.
The Ministry of Health has also assured that it has enough doses to cover the second shot for those persons receiving their first shot of the vaccine. As of yesterday, more than 70,000 persons had already received their first dose of the vaccine.
The move by the Ministry of Health comes as the cases of coronavirus in the country continue to spike. A total of 153 new cases of the virus were reported yesterday, taking the total number of active cases to more than 1,200.
There is also a worrying increase in COVID-19 related deaths. 30 deaths have been recorded in the past 15 days.
Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony has expressed concern about the number of hospitalisations and continues to press for citizens to follow the guidelines to ensure their protection from the virus.
