Director of Prisons, Welton Trotz appeared in court on Thursday afternoon and was charged for the sexual assault of a female prison officer.

Trotz, who represented himself, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

His trial is expected to begin at the end of this month before the same Magistrate.

The Prison Director who recently received a national award, was granted $100,000 bail.

The incident allegedly took place back in January. The female prison officer claimed that the Prison Director made sexual advances to her several times and on one occasion showed her pornographic images.

A probe was conducted under the previous government. However, the alleged victim decided to pursue criminal charges.
