The Director of Public Prosecutions is still to offer advice to the Police in the Minister Nigel Dharamlall matter.
The Police last week completed its investigation of the rape and sexual assault allegations made against the Minister of Local Government by a 16-year-old school girl. Police investigators are now awaiting word from the DPP on possible charges.
In a statement condemning protests outside her office, the DPP said all statements and evidence in the Police investigation are still being examined.
According to the DPP, there are thousands of other files being examined, and preference is usually given to the files involving persons who are in Police custody.
The DPP’s office said it will not be intimidated by the protests, describing the various groups of persons and organisations that have been protesting outside the office as members of the political opposition.
According to the DPP, the criminal matter should not politicized.
Supporters of the 16-year-old school girl who made the damning allegations have said they. have noted the pace at which the DPP is treating the matter against the Government Minister, as against the pace at which other matters were treated.
