Persons and businesses that have encumbrances on the Government reserves have two days to remove them or have them removed by the government.
Minister of Works, Juan Edghill issued the final warning today, including to those who have turned the roadsides into their vending spots. He said the Government of Guyana has an aggressive developmental agenda that cannot be hampered.
“So if somebody comes out with a dog food stand or cart selling food or somebody decides to go on the reserve and wash a car and call it a car wash, should we allow as a country, to stop Guyana’s development? We can’t allow that”, Edghill said.
It was explained that the Ministry of Works has given persons enough time to remove the encumbrances from the government’s reserves. Edghill said enough time has been spent on asking people to remove, adding that it is now time for action.
“But that period of asking for moving is over, as of Monday the Ministry of Public Works will begin to move derelicts, sand, stone, debris everything that is in the path and is encumbering the road shoulders throughout the length and breadth of Guyana,” Edghill noted.
As it relates to people who are currently building or expanding properties and have encumbrances on the road, the Minister assured them that they have nothing to fear.
But he said there are others who are putting down structures on government reserves and the practice is causing major safety concerns.
“We have to bring an end to the lawlessness while we develop Guyana,” Edghill declared.
The Minister said whatever items are removed will be seized by his Ministry and there will be a cost attached to recovering those items.
