Officials from the ExxonMobil company in the United States are currently in Guyana engaging Ministers within the Guyana Government and Opposition members on the development of the Liza Oil Project.

Exxon Mobil has made significant oil discoveries in Guyana’s waters, which could see hundreds of millions of barrels of oil being extracted.

The Update is one of several engagements of the company at the Marriott Hotel. The briefing according to Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman is primarily a technical one.
It is coming at a time when Guyana preparing to see the extraction of Oil and Natural Gas by 2020.
Minister Trotman said it is important that Guyanese and policy makers know what the resources are, how they will be developed and how they will be utilized for the benefit of all Guyanese.
The first presentation was closed to the media, but Mr. Trotman lamented that it is “the beginning of a series of engagement starting with policy makers and extending to citizens of Guyana throughout all ten regions”.
Similar updates are to be taken to parts of the US and the Caribbean region where there are significant presence of Guyanese.
Briefings for the media on the development of the Liza project are expected soon also.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Natural Resources is getting ready to go on a major cross country outreach programme to inform Guyanese of the development of the oil and gas sector and the possible benefits. (Handel Duncan)
