The Guyana Police Force has announced that the just concluded six-week gun amnesty has ended and 186 illegal guns were handed over to the police along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
The amnesty ended on October 14 and the Police Force has hailed it as a success. None of the weapons that were collected have been linked to any criminal activity. Public Security Minister, Khemraj Ramjattan has indicated that now that the amnesty has ended, persons found with illegal firearm will have to face the full force of the law.
Most of the weapons handed over were shotguns.
