Police investigators are probing the stabbing death of a 26-year-old fisherman at Anna Catherina on the West Coast of Demerara.

The dead man has been identified as Munaff Azeem.  The incident took place on Monday morning.  According to reports, Azeem was beaten and stabbed by a group of fishermen during a row over fishing equipment that started a day earlier. 

Investigators believe that the fishermen were actually after Azeem’s brother-in-law who is also a fisherman, but after he became involved in the issue, the group of angry fishermen turned their attention to him.

At least eight fishermen have been named in the deadly attack.  Family members of the dead man have said they want justice and they want all of the men involved to be placed before the Court.  

Investigations into the Easter Monday murder are ongoing.
