Foreign Minister thanks The Commonwealth for its continued support of Guyana in border row with Venezuela

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hugh Todd, has expressed Guyana’s appreciation to the Commonwealth for the firm and principled support which it has always received from the Member States of the Commonwealth in maintainence and preservation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as the Commonwealth’s support for the on-going ICJ process.

During a Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Meeting during the UN General Assembly in New York, Minister Todd provided an update on the controversy and the ongoing process before the International Court.

The Commonwealth has always been supportive of Guyana in the border controversy with Venezuela, and only recently noted that many of Venezuela’s actions constitute a threat to Guyana’s sovereignty, and also serve as a disregard of the Argyle Declaration.

The Commonwealth Group has reiterated its steadfast, strong, and unconditional support for the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Guyana and for Guyana’s right to develop the entirety of its territory for the benefit of its people.
