Almost two years after he was freed of a misconduct in public office charge in relation to the signing of a vesting order, former Finance Minister Winston Jordan appeared in Court again today to face a new charge of misconduct in public office in relation to the signing of a different vesting order.
The Economist, who served as Minister of Finance under the former APNU+AFC Government, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning where the charge was read to him.
He is accused of misconducting himself in public office by signing a vesting order for the Government sale of over five acres of land at Lot PSS Plantation Beterverwaghting and Sparendaam.
The Special Organised Crime Unit claims that the land was sold for just over $2.4 million when its value was more.
Mr. Jordan was represented by Senior Counsel Roysdale Forde and Attorney Dawn Cush, who informed the Court that the charge was a waste of the Court’s time.
Jordan was granted bail in the sum of $150,000 and ordered to return to Court on the 23rd April for a continuation of the case.
He has dismissed the charges as having no merit and being political in nature.
