Agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit arrested four persons on Monday along the Parika Public Road, East Bank Essequibo following the discovery of more than 9 kilograms of cocaine in their possession.
In a statement, CANU said its agents were conducting an operation in the area at the time and intercepted a motor car with several parcels of the large amount of cocaine.
CANU said a search at the residence of one of the suspects led to the discovery of a Tarrus pistol along with a magazine containing 14 rounds and several other bags of cocaine.
In total, CANU said the seized cocaine weighed 9.034 kilograms.
The four suspects remain in custody assisting with the investigations. Their names have not been released by CANU.
