GDF driver granted $1 million bail for causing death by dangerous driving

A man attached to the Guyana Defence Force(GDF) as a Driver today made his first appearance in Georgetown Magistrate Court and was placed on $1 million bail for causing the death of a man by dangerous driving.

The Court heard that 24-year-old driver, Zamani Archibald, was driving recklessly when he struck down an elderly man, resulting in the man’s death.

He was at the time driving a vehicle owned by the GDF.

The accused was not required to plea to the charge.

The incident took place on March 11, 2017 on the Linden Soesdyke Highway, while he was driving motorcar DFB 1566 in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of Harry Persaud.

Reports indicates that now dead man was at the time, towing his grandson, when the Cycle was struck by the vehicle that was being driven by Archibald.

The elderly man died while the grandson managed to survive the crash.

Archibald, was granted bail to the tune of $1 Million Dollar and was instructed to return to court on August 30th, when this matter will be called again.
