Following a second round of applications and interviews for the top post within the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), Public Accountant and Attorney-at-Law Godfrey Statia has been appointed the new Commissioner General.

The Board has confirmed the appointment with one member saying that Statia had emerged the best suited candidate for the position.

“Of course there was an application and interview process and he emerged the best suited candidate,” the Board member who opted to remain anonymous told News Source.

Statia is expected to take up his position as the Commissioner General of the tax body soon and replaces Khursid Sattaur who was fired by the Board earlier this year.

Following Sattaur’s dismissal, Deputy Commissioner General Ingrid Griffith acted in that capacity up until last month, when she went on leave.

Statia is a Certified Public Accountant and Personal Financial Specialist.

He has specialist skills in individual and small business accounting, taxation and financial planning.

Statia is a graduate of the Hugh Wooding Law School, University of the West Indies, and practices law in Guyana and the Caribbean.

He served previously as the Deputy Head of the then Inland Revenue Department which has been merged with the Customs and Excise Department to form the GRA.

A new deputy Commissioner General in the person of Hema Khan has already been appointed.
