President David Granger has confirmed that Carl Greenidge who served as Finance Minister under the Desmond Hoyte presidency, will return to government as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Former Budget Director and respected Economist, Winston Jordan will be the new Minister of Finance in the APNU+AFC administration.
The President told the media on Monday, that both Greenidge and Jordan have accepted the offer to serve in the cabinet. They will be fully appointed as cabinet ministers after they are sworn in as Members of Parliament.
The 11th Parliament is expected to be opened within the next two weeks.
Granger is expected to meet with Prime Minister Elect Moses Nagamootoo on Monday evening to finalize the other cabinet appointments.
Chairman of the People’s National Congress Reform and former APNU Member of Parliament, Attorney Basil Williams is expected to appointed as the Attorney General while media expert and former AFC Member of Parliament, Cathy Hughes is tipped to be appointed as the next Tourism Minister.
The Natural Resources Ministry is expected to be headed by Dr.Rupert Roopnarine while Khemraj Ramjattan is expected to head the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The APNU+AFC cabinet is expected to have 15 members. The APNU will have 9 of its candidates serve in the cabinet while the AFC will pick the remaining 6.
“There will be some junior ministers in the Cabinet… I am aiming at small muscular hard working cabinet and will be putting emphasis on economic diplomacy,” the President told the media.
Mr. Granger, in his rush to a another meeting, said he intends to put together an administration that will improve the quality of life of all Guyanese.
He also spent part of Monday meeting with staffers at the Office of the President, including those who served openly on the campaign trail as members of the Progressive Youth Organisation, which is the youth arm of the PPP.
