A 24-year-old goldsmith who was preparing to marry his longtime girlfriend later this month was stabbed to death on Friday night during an argument with a friend at the Muslim Youth Organisation ground.

The dead man has been identified as Kareem Kyum of Regent Street, Bourda.

According to reports, Kyum and the 21-year-old suspects were known to each other well as they were both members of the Muslim Youth Organisation and visited the MYO ground weekly to catch up on their cricket.

A police report stated that on Friday night during the cricket game, the two men got into a row after Kyum complained that the other man was calling him unsavory names.

“The deceased and suspect subsequently became involved in scuffle during which the suspect was seen with a knife in his hand and a reddish substance that appeared to be blood coming from the deceased’s chest area. The victim was rushed to the GPHC after the suspect was subdued, where on arrival he was seen by a doctor but died while receiving treatment”, the Police report said.

The suspect was taken into custody and remains in custody. A post-mortem examination is to be conducted on the body of Kareem Kyum before his body is handed over to his family for burial.
