Gunmen attack and rob Bank of Baroda East Coast branch

Four heavily armed gunmen on Friday afternoon stormed the Bank of Baroda branch at Mon Repos on the East Coast of Demerara and carted off an undisclosed sum of cash after holding a number of customers and bank employees at gunpoint.

The only security guard who was on duty was relieved of her firearm. No one was injured during the heist.

The incident took place just after 1:00pm in the busy area. The bank is located on the bottom floor of a mini mall.

The four men who were all masked, reportedly barged into the premises forcing customers to lie on the ground as the tellers were told to hand over money.

The robbery lasted for less than 10 minutes and by the time an alarm was raised, the bandits had already made their escape in a waiting Toyoto Primo motorcar which was silver grey in colour.

The bank immediately closed down its operations for the day as police investigators arrived to begin their probe.  News Source understands that surveillance video from the bank and surrounding buildings is being examined by the investigators.
