Gunmen storm Montrose house, cart off cash and jewellery

A 23-year-old young woman was forced to hide in her house as three gunmen invaded her Montrose Railway Line home on the East Coast of Demerara on Tuesday night. The young woman lived at the house with her parents and a younger sister.

The parents were not at home at the time. While the older sister hid, the gunmen forced the younger sister who is 19 years old to hand over jewellery and money.

According to the family, the men had already grabbed over $300,000 in cash before they placed a gun to the head of the younger daughter and demanded more money and jewellery.

A taxi service is based at the same house.

A number of drivers who were in the bottom flat of the two storey were also held at gunpoint. Persons in the area said the Police responded quickly and were engaged in a shoot out with the bandits before the men made an escape.
