On the same day that the Guyana Police Force released statistics pointing to an increase in murders, robberies and violent crimes, those figures continued to tick up following the shooting death of a West Coast Demerara businessman during a robbery.
The Police late on Tuesday night confirmed the death of 27-year-old businessman Zulficar Namdar who was gunned down when at least six heavily armed bandits stormed his Meten-meer-Zorg, West Demerara shop just after 8 o clock on Tuesday night.
A young man who worked in the shop with the businessman was beaten.
The latest killing sent shock waves throughout the West Coast Demerara community where friends and family remembered the young businessman as quiet and respectful. He has left to mourn his wife, two young children and his parents.
He was the only child for his parents.
