Two West Coast Demerara men were killed on Sunday morning in a hit and run accident as they walked home just after morning prayers in the Meten-meer-zorg community on the West Coast of Demerara.
The two dead men have been identified as 56-year-old Juman Ali of De Willem Village and 51-year-old Hasid Mohammed Bulla of Meten-meer-zorg East.
Initial reports state that the two were in a group returning home from early morning prayers when an out of control car slammed into them as they walked along the roadway.
The driver reportedly ran away from the scene but was later apprehended. A number of other persons are nursing injuries.
The two men received severe injuries to their head and bodies and were pronounced dead at the hospital on the West Coast Demerara. An investigation is underway.
