The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) was asked by ICAO’s President to host the major event for aviation last year and accepted the mega task with assurances on Friday that plans were moving apace.

Opportunities in aviation, tourism, investment and trade across the region will be on full display when Guyana hosts the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Air Transport Conference later this year.

The conference will bring together representatives from a total of 192 countries.

Recognized as the largest meeting in Guyana’s aviation history to be held here from November 21 to 23, 2018 at the Arthur Chung Conference Center, the country’s leading aviation body said it is on fast track mode to ensure the successful hosting of the conference.

The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) was asked by ICAO’s President to host the major event for aviation last year and accepted the mega task with assurances on Friday that plans were moving apace.

The conference will also feature the third meeting of the African diaspora on the last day of the conference. That meeting will bring together countries from the African continent, seek to promote airlink between African states and rest of the world and address other areas of cooperation between African states.

GCAA’s Director General, Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Egbert Field told local media reps during a news conference on Friday that the conference will be conducted in an atmosphere characterized by Guyanese culture and blue-ribbon standards across industries.

“We are looking to host a conference that is befitting international standards… already we have created a website with information on the conference… locked in accommodation from 16 hotels in Georgetown… and we have identified interpreters as the conference will be held in three languages,” he added.

More importantly the organizers are currently seeking out exhibitors, sponsors and supporters for the conference.

With Caribbean Airlines and Sol Aviation Inc. already on Board as platinum sponsors, Director of Marketing an operational Support Franklin Viera announced on Friday that a permanent secretariat has be set up to coordinate the day to day planning for the conference.

We are looking for sponsors and supporters in sponsorship categories such as platinum, gold, silver, bronze and lite,” he said.

He said indications have been received from a number of local companies with ICAO also involved in helping to establish sponsorship globally.

“We have written to more than 40 companies locally… we will also be publishing a 40-page conference magazine which will give persons the opportunity to advertise their businesses to the world.

Already SOL has donated $1 million dollars with Caribbean Airlines looking to up flights to Guyana during that period to lift passengers into Guyana with the help of other carriers such as American Airlines which will being services to Guyana’s upgraded airport.

During the conference there will be presentations from experts on the economic benefits of aviation in the region, harmonizing regional regulations, liberalization of air cargo, air transport and tourism, and financing aviation infrastructure.

There will also be a Gala night and tours to areas throughout Guyana.
