Guyana officially suspends search for mystery boat with dead bodies

The Guyana Coast Guard and other local agencies have ended their search for the boat that was spotted offshore Guyana with several dead bodies aboard.

The Ministry of Public Works confirmed that the suspension of the searches on the high seas took place today.

Guyana has alerted Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean countries about the drifting boat and the possibility of it making its way into their waters. The US authorities have also been alerted about the situation.

The boat was first spotted about 80 miles off the coast of Guyana by an outgoing vessel on Monday afternoon.

The crew of the outgoing vessel immediately alerted local authorities about the discovery. They sent photographs as well as the coordinates for the location.

The Guyanese authorities never dispatched a search team until the next day, more than 15 hours later. By then, the boat had drifted from the area where it was spotted. It has not been seen since then.

Photographs of the boat showed a number of dead bodies at the bottom of the boat while another body could be seen clinging to one of the rafters.

The Guyanese authorities have reported that they have no information about any missing boat or crew from Guyana. The Surinamese authorities also have no reports of any missing boat and crew from across there.
