Guyana Passport online application system launched

The Central Immigration and Passport Office has rolled out the e-appointment and e-passport application system.

Guyanese citizens can apply for and renew their passports online through the official Guyana Passport Appointment System or by accessing portals via the Ministry of Home Affairs website.

The digital system allows you to fill out applications, upload necessary documents, and schedule appointments for biometrics enrollment.

Deputy Chief Immigration Officer, Senior Superintendent Stephen Telford said the initiative forms part of the Passport Office’s agenda to modernize its services.

“What this allow you to do, is to make an application for your passport from the comfort of your home. They would also have the opportunity to choose which one of the offices they would want to go to, to have their passport processed, and this service will be done by appointment system, so persons would also have the opportunity to choose the time they want to come into the passport office to have the process done,” Telford noted.

The in-person application process will also still be in place, with Telford announcing reduced wait times for uplifting new passports and the expedited passport system also allowing a new passport to be issued in no more than 24 hours.

In addition, he explained that the Passport Office has introduced a home-service to cater for the elderly and persons who may be disabled.

“As the technology advance, we have what we now call the mobile services where we can come to your home if you are bed ridden or differently-abled, if you cannot come to the passport office, we can come to you,” Mr. Telford said.

The Deputy Chief Immigration Officer described the work of the passport office as transformational, explaining that the department has also expanded passport services across the country through decentralized offices and mobile enrolment units, in several regions and hinterland communities.

In addition to the online passport application services, Mr. Telford also spoke of the  digital travel processing through the introduction of the electronic embarkation and disembarkation forms and automated e-gates at ports of entry.

He hailed the introduction of the 10-year passport, saying that the initiative has been well received by Guyanese.
