Guyana to remove COVID-19 testing requirement for arriving passengers; Full vaccination still required

One week after the United States announced the removal of COVID-19 testing requirements for persons traveling to the US, the Guyana Government has followed suit.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the Ministry of Health this morning announced that with effect from Saturday 18th June 2022, persons traveling to Guyana will no longer be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result.

However, all travelers 12 years old and over must show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The move by the Ministry of Health comes as it continues to try to get more persons vaccinated against COVID-19 as cases continue to climb. More than 86% of Guyana’s adult population has received at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine while 67% of the country’s adult population is fully vaccinated.

Last Saturday, Guyana started the vaccination of children between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.

Based on its last COVID-19 report, which was issued on Thursday, there are more than 950 active cases of the virus in Guyana.

The hospitalization rate remains very low with only 19 persons hospitalized across the country.

The pandemic has claimed 1,244 lives in Guyana.
