Guyana’s Ambassador to the UN hits campaign trail for PPP in Region One

Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Carloyn Rodrigues- Birkett is taking a break from her diplomatic duties and is back home on the campaign trail for the governing People’s Progressive Party.

The Ambassador to the UN was a speaker the commissioning of the Waramuri Secondary School in Region 1 this afternoon, and told gathered that the PPP/C and its leadership are well equipped to move the country forward. She urged the indigenous to stick with the governing party.

“We don’t only dream, the People’s Progressive Party Civic, we implement what we tell you we are going to do, we always do that and it is okay for us to dream now because our country is in a better position now and the leadership that we have for our country, there is no other person or group of persons that can lead this country right now,” She stated.

Ambassador Rodrugues-Birkett said the international community now sees Guyana differently and has been paying keen attention to the country’s developmental journey and the investments being made by the Government.

Using herself as an example, the Ambassador said she was able to rise to one of the most powerful ambassadorial posts, and serving as the President of the UN Security Council on two occasions.

She said the PPP has always looked out for the Amerindian communities.

“President Irfaan Ali, long before he became President, long before becoming a minister, used to be responsible for basic needs trust fund and we had some collaborations trying to get schools in these areas and he has only continued with that passion from since then to develop these communities,” Ambassador Birkett recalled.

Noting that Guyana is at a pivotal moment in its development, the Ambassador said the country is still facing threats from neighbouring Venezuela and she believes that the governing party is the only one that can avert the threat.

“And as we go forward to choose on September 1st, again there is only one party that can secure our territorial integrity because we know what is at stake right now and remember the role the Waramuri community has played as an early civilization and the role you will continue to play on September 1st as we elect a new government,” she stated.
