Although he has proclaimed his innocence, the Guyanese man arrested in New York for the over 580 pounds of cocaine which was found on a shrimp shipment from Guyana, travelled to the United States from Guyana to clear the shipment.
The man, Heeralall Sukdeo was arrested in Brooklyn, New York last week as he overlooked the offloading of the shipment of shrimp that contained the cocaine. He was unaware that he was being observed by Law Enforcement agents and was also unaware that the cocaine had already been removed from the shrimp.
Sources close to the Customs and Anti Narcotics Unit in Guyana, today told News Source that Sukdeo travelled from Guyana just around the same time that the shipment reached the United States. His Guyana address is listed in the East Coast Demerara village of Annandale.
Investigators have revealed that he operated a shrimp and packaging business from the Annandale address and they are convinced that the cocaine was packed into the shipment of shrimp at the same location.
A number of local persons are being sought to assist with the investigations. Although the shipment was consigned to Sukdeo, he was not listed as the shipper.
CANU has been assisting the US investigators with the probe.
The fishy cargo was discovered by a drug sniffing dog in New York. The cocaine was found stashed between hundreds of pounds of frozen shrimp. US Authorities said the cocaine carries a street value of over 12 million U.S dollars.
After the shipment arrived in the us and the bust was made, the us authorities removed the cocaine and allowed the shipment to be delivered to follow its trail.
The shrimp shipment was delivered to an address in Brooklyn where Heeralall Sukdeo was busted. US agents believe Sukdeo also used the name Randolph FRASER. The cocaine shrimp shipment was addressed to Randolph Fraser.
