Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn, visited the family of late Fireman, Voshaun Manbodh this morning and offered them the assurance that his death will be fully investigated.
The 27-year-old fireman died at the Georgetown Hospital on Saturday night, three days after being admitted with serious injuries suffered when a wall collapsed on him during a battle with a fire at the Mae’s School in Subryanville last Wednesday.
The Fireman’s family has questioned the quality of care administered to him at the Georgetown Public Hospital. They believe his condition worsened after he fell from the bed at the hospital, and his family has said they were never informed by the hospital about that fall. It was a patient in the same ward who explained the incident to them.
In a statement this morning, the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that during the fire fight at the Mae’s School, Fireman Manbodh sustained severe injuries when portions of the roof and wall of the building collapsed, resulting in reported fractures to his neck resulting in impaired motor function.

“Fireman Manbodh’s heroic efforts will not be forgotten. He, along with his colleagues, displayed great courage in the face of grave danger, by placing the safety of others above his own. His passing is a great loss to the Guyana Fire Service”, the statement said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs also indicated that through with the Guyana Fire Service, it will provide full support to Fireman Manbodh’s family.
It said the loss of Fireman Manbodh serves as a solemn reminder of the dangers faced by firefighters daily, adding that their bravery and commitment to protecting lives and property are unparalleled.
Three other firemen also suffered injuries at the Mae’s fire, but they have since been discharged from the hospital.
The Home Affairs Ministry said an investigation will be conducted to identify the cause of the fireman’s death and as well as the injuries sustained.
