A courageous fireman in the mining town of Linden is nursing several chop wounds about his body, after he came to face to face with four men who may have planned to rob him at his Wisroc house.
The incident took place on Wednesday night.
The fireman, 30-year-old, Mesimba Sampson, was about to retire to bed when he heard noises coming from just outside his back door and someone shouting his name.
When he opened the door to investigate, he was confronted by the four men. One was armed with a gun, while the other three were all armed with cutlasses.
A quick thinking Sampson, plunged and grabbed the handgun from the bandit but was attacked by the other three. With chop wounds and blood dripping from his head and the other wounds, he managed to run to the nearby Police station where he got refuge.
By the time the Police rushed back over to the house, the men had already escaped. The gun is in the possession of the police investigators.
The fireman who is stationed at the Linden Fire Service, was taken to the Mackenzie Hospital for initial treatment.
An investigation is ongoing.
