I have no interest whatsoever in any oil company says Jagdeo

As the State Assets Recovery Agency probes the handing out of oil blocks to companies just before the 2015 elections, Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo today declared that he has no interest, financial or otherwise, in any of the oil companies.

Responding to a direct question posed by News Source at his weekly press conference this afternoon, Mr. Jagdeo said “you are asking me if I have an interest now in oil and gas, in any of the companies and the answer is no. No, not any interest whatsoever but the question is loaded”.

Jagdeo said the President and other members of the Government should now be questioned about whether they have any interests.

He said he could not speak for former President Donald Ramotar and former Natural Resources Minister Robert Persaud, adding that the questions should be directed at them.

“The thing is no, I don’t have an interest and you can ask those people if they have an interest and then the investigation will reveal that, but its a loaded question and the next thing is that Jagdeo says has no shareholding, so it makes a headline but in an adverse way”, he said.

Further questioned about whether the PPP Civic might have in the past received any funding from any of the oil companies that it granted license to just before elections, the Opposition Leader said he knows nothing about that.

“I am not aware of that”, he said.
