Jagdeo denies PPP received election donation from BaiShanLin; Claims its just rumours

Leader of the Opposition and former President Bharrat Jagdeo has denied that the People’s Progressive Party received any money from the BaiShanLin Chinese company as funding for its 2016 elections campaign.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that the PPP had received over $100 Million from the BaiShanLin group as a campaign donation. Mr. Jagdeo said the party never received that sort of money or any money at all from BaiShanLin. He said “its just rumours”.

Jagdeo said it appears as though there is even an attempt to balance rumours, pointing out that reports about the PPP receiving millions from BaiShanLin came just as reports were surfacing that the APNU+AFC received millions from BK International Construction.

During its time in office, the PPP enjoyed a chummy relationship with the BaiShanLin company and the company enjoyed several privileges under the PPP government.

Earlier this week, the Guyana Revenue Authority moved in and seized two luxury vehicles for BaiShanLin over taxes owed.

Mr. Jagdeo said if companies were afforded concessions for their investments and they do not live up to their end of the bargain, then he believes the government has all right to claim its money.
