Former President Bharrat Jagdeo has been released from a Florida hospital after being treated for dengue fever and pneumonia. He is expected to return to Guyana at the end of this week.
On his official Facebook Page, it was noted that the former President is “feeling better and will be home soon”. Several sources familiar with his health condition have said he has been discharged from the Florida Health facility that he was air dashed to from Guyana after local doctors reportedly advised him to seek overseas medical attention.
At his side over the past few days in hospital care has been his close friend, Dr. Bobby Ramroop. Mr. Jagdeo was flown out of Guyana on Saturday on a private medivac jet to Florida.
The Government of Guyana has been relatively silent on the former President’s condition and the emergency medical evacuation that saw him being transferred to Florida. Some Opposition members have already raised concern about whether procedure was indeed follow to activate the medical evacuation and whether it was really warranted.
Though the Government has not said anything about the medivac, it is likely that the state will foot the bill for the medivac and Mr. Jagdeo’s care while in the United States.
