Jagdeo dismisses any “secrets” Brutus might have on Government and dares him to release them all

As embattled Assistant Police Commissioner Calvin Brutus was appearing in Court on multiple financial crime charges, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo at a Freedom House press conference, dared the senior Police Officer to release whatever secrets or information he might have on the Government, making it clear that the Government will not be “blackmailed”.

Responding to questions that Mr. Brutus may have information that could implicate Government officials in wrongdoings and possible crimes, the Vice President said the Assistant Commissioner can go right ahead and release the information if he feels that is the course of action that he should take.

“I think it is a form of blackmail, I think he is hoping that maybe there will be fear in some quarters in the Government that he can say something that is compromising to us, and they would relent on ensuring that justice is served. He has to be thinking again, whatever he has to let out, he can let it out, and he can say whatever he wants,” Mr. Jagdeo said this afternoon.

Outside of the criminal charges that he is facing, Mr. Brutus has filed action in the High Court against the Government, the Guyana Police Force and the Police Service Commission over the investigations that were conducted against him. He said the investigations were tainted by political interference and other issues.

Today, the Vice President said the Government will defend itself.

“We have no fear in whatever he wants to say, I will deal with it later and at the appropriate time, but do you see us worried about this? We are very come and he can go ahead and say anything,” Mr. Jagdeo said.

Mr. Jagdeo also responded to the Court filings of Mr. Brutus, where his name was mentioend.

The Vice President denied all the allegations, and more so rejected that it was him who specifically ordered for Mr. Brutus to be transferred. He said he does not get involved in the operations of the Guyana Police Force and will ensure that his name is cleared from the case.
