General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo has strongly urged supporters and activists of his party, to continue to go on the ground in communities and spread the message of the party, warning that the Opposition can surprise them at the next elections if they do not put in the work.
While expressing confidence that his party will overwhelmingly win the next elections, Mr. Jagdeo said nothing should be taken for granted.
“Often it seems like we are fighting against an invisible enemy, you don’t see the Opposition as prevalent as they were before but do not be deluded if you grow arrogant and if you don’t put in the hard work, we can have surprises, they are invisible, they are not doing much but quietly they continue to spread the racist messages that they have grown accustomed to using in campaigning,” Mr. Jagdeo stated.
Mr. Jagdeo said this year’s elections will be crucial, as he urged supporters to ensure they bring more people on board to rally behind the PPP.
“Elections are not won by single speeches, they are won by hard work and hard work back in the communities from which you have come, every community in Guyana and that is why I am relying on every single one of you to leave with the message, that you have heard here and what you have seen around you in the last four and a half years, the commitment to fulfilling the promises that we made in 2020 and we expect you to not only take that message to your neighbors and communities but work every single day from now until the elections are called,” Jagdeo told supporters.

The PPP General Secretary has alleged that the Opposition is engaged in whisper campaigns in communities to keep Afro-Guyanese away from his party, though he boasted that his party has seen an increase in Afro-Guyanese joining its ranks.
“So we have to be cautious about this, we have to ensure that this quiet campaigning doesn’t work by exposing them for what they are doing, they call, Afro-Guyanese the vilest names,” He posited.
Jagdeo said the campaign against the PPP is not only run by political parties but also some civil society organizations that he believes continue to discredit the work of the PPP.
