Agents from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) are probing the discovery of a large quantity of compressed marijuana in a container at the John Fernandes Wharf on Tuesday.
Head of CANU, James Singh confirmed the bust but at the time could not provide a final figure on the weight of the illegal substance.
Singh said the container brought heavy duty machinery in Guyana.
Its last stop before here was Jamaica but the shipment originated in the United States.
The bust was made on Tuesday afternoon when narcotics agents were carrying out a search.
The shipment arrived in Guyana early in May.
An active investigation is underway and several employees at the wharf were being questioned. (Kurt Campbell)
