44-year-old Lethem Businessman, Marlon Jarvis stood before the Chief Magistrate and denied the allegations of drug trafficking today.

He has been remanded to jail until the 18th April.

The court heard that between the 3rd and 4th April at Tabatinga, Lethem, the businessman had 53.7 Kilograms of compressed marijuana and 1.5 kilograms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

It is further alleged that on the same day, Jarvis willfully attempted to prevent the course of justice by offering to pay the investigating Police Officer $180,000 for the charge against him to be dropped and the drugs returned to him.

Attorney-at-Law, Jerome Khan in an application for bail, told the Court that the allegations were nothing more than allegations.

The Attorney claimed that it was another accused who reached out to his client seeking to borrow money and his client did not know the reason for the loan. He claims that his client was arrested just after.

The Police Prosecutor told the Court that on the day in question, the Police launched an operation based on intelligence gather.

The operation took them to an unfinished building where the marijuana and cocaine were found. Another man was arrested at the scene, while Jarvis was arrested moments later.
