Copa Airlines received bomb threat at CJIA; Man who tried to block wife and children from leaving is main suspect

A Copa Airlines flight to Panama City was this afternoon delayed at Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan Airport after the airline received a bomb threat.

Passengers were already on board the aircraft when the threat was received. The passengers were quickly evacuated as the Police and Bomb squad hurried to the plane and started to carry out their checks.

No bomb was found and the flight was able to leave just around 5:42pm.

News Source understands that a Guyanese man who was making moves to block his wife from leaving the country with their children, is suspected as the person behind the threat.

The man was reportedly spotted at the airport earlier this afternoon as the woman and the children were checking in for their flight and he reportedly tried to get the children to leave their mother and go to him.

The woman was able to check into her flight and moments later as boarding started, the call was received about a bomb being on the airplane.

The investigation is ongoing.
