The body of a man, who is believed to be in his late 20’s, was found this morning on the walkway of the Houston overpass on the East Bank of Demerara.

It is suspected that he may have taken his own life overnight. The man is still to be identified. He was found clad in cream pants and blue long sleeve t-shirt. A black pair of slippers was found nearby.

Police investigators and emergency services were summoned to the scene just after 5:30 this morning, when the body was found by someone accessing the overpass. He was pronounced dead at the scene after his body was lowered from the metal roof of the overpass.

The overpass was blocked off as investigations were launched. Guyana has one of the highest suicide rates in the world.
