Man shot at Mandela bar over row about bottles on car trunk

A police statement said 48-year-old East Ruimveldt resident, Martin Bovell aka John Corbie, was outside the bar when an argument began with the owner of a car that he had reportedly placed beer bottles on. The man objected to the bottles being placed on his car trunk, but walked away from the argument, choosing to go inside the bar.

An East Ruimveldt man who fired a shot at a licensed gun owner after the man objected to him placing beer bootles on his car, is now nursing three gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen after the man he shot at returned fire.

The incident happened just around 2:00am at the popular Wings and Things Hangout Bar on Mandela Avenue in Georgetown.

A police statement said 48-year-old East Ruimveldt resident, Martin Bovell aka John Corbie, was outside the bar when an argument began with the owner of a car that he had reportedly placed beer bottles on.  The man objected to the bottles being placed on his car trunk, but walked away from the argument, choosing to go inside the bar.

He was followed by Bovell who whipped out a firearm and shot at the man but missed. The man, who is the licensed owner of a firearm, whipped out his firearm and fired three shots at Bovell, hitting him in the chest and abdomen.

He was rushed to the hospital by patrons, while the other man was taken in to custody and his firearm lodged as investigations got underway.

Police investigators have reported that four spent shells were found at the scene.
