Medical Council to file Police complaint against fake Doctor

The Medical Council of Guyana and the Ministry of Health are taking the matter of the young man who has been impersonating a doctor seriously and intend to file a formal criminal complaint against him.

The young man who goes by the name Mikhail McLennan had first denied that he has been posing as a medical doctor, then later claimed that he was a medical student at the University of Guyana.

However, the University of Guyana has denied that the man was ever a student at the University.

The Medical Council also reported that he was never registered as a medical practitioner and the Texila Medical University also pointed out that he was never a student there after that University’s name appeared on his resumé.

There are reports that the man who has been posing as a doctor for over three years once visited two different regional hospitals to work, but later left after questions surfaced about his qualifications and training. He had also attended medical outreaches for various non-governmental groups after presenting himself as a doctor.

He was busted this past week after he started to volunteer with the Guyana Cancer Foundation and questions again surfaced about his qualifications and training.

On his social media pages, he posted a number of photos dressed in medical outfits and in attendance at medical outreaches.

The Chief Medical Officer has indicated that he is very concerned about the issue and wants it properly investigated by the Police.
