Mohamed officially launches campaign with promise to invest in people and real solutions

Presidential hopeful, Azruddin Mohamed is promising that he will be laser focused on the development of Guyana by investing in its people and critical sectors that impact their lives such as education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, technology, energy and entrepreneurship.

In an official video release to launch his party, We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) last night, Mr. Mohamed who remains under US sanctions, said WIN is not just a party, but it is a movement that is rooted in purpose and principles that would guide the development of the country’s people.

“We invest in progress, in real solutions, not slogans, in our people, in you, because that’s how a nation wins. We chose this name because it is a direct promise of what we stand for, unity. Because for too long, the old politics has sought to divide us along lines of race and social standing. We believe our diversity is our greatest strength, and we will build a Guyana where every single citizen feels they belong,” Mohamed said as he launched his political campaign ahead of the September 1 General and Regional Elections.

Contending that WIN will bridge the racial, social and economic divides, Mohamed assured that his party will place the “wealth” of Guyana into the hands of its people and their communities, while investing in infrastructure development and sectors that will make a difference in their lives.

“Our symbol represents everything your government will be for you. It stands for speed and action, because we will move decisively to solve the problems that have held you back for too long. It stands for focus, because we will be laser focused on your progress, never distracted by the old politics of division. And it stands for efficiency and power, because we will use our nation’s resources wisely to deliver real results for your family. This is a symbol of leadership that is agile, powerful, and relentlessly committed to one goal, a better life for all Guyanese,” he said.

The billionaire businessman said by supporting WIN, Guyanese will be supporting a move towards self-sufficiency economically, quality education and healthcare, a governance system that serves its people, national unity, environmental security and job security.

“To every young person, this is your moment. Your voice will not be used; it will be heard. To our Guyanese diaspora, this is your home. And you investing in Guyana will not be in vain. We are building bridges, not borders. For too long we have been told to wait. Wait for promises. Wait for others to lead. Wait for change. But no more. The time to win is now. We will build a Guyana where every citizen belongs, not just by building bridges of steel and concrete. Every citizen belongs, not just by building bridges of steel and concrete, but by building the bridge that truly matters. The one that allows the poor to reach the rich, so no one is left behind,” he said.

The presidential candidate said his party’s mission is to build a comfortable life for all Guyanese, where citizens no longer have to struggle to make ends meet.

He said WIN is the start of something new that is much bigger than him and the campaign, emphasizing that it is about the people of Guyana.

Even as he pushes to change the face of local politics, Mohamed still faces the stain from the sanctions that were imposed against him, his father and their businesses along with Government Permanent Secretary, Mae Thomas, last year.

Additionally, one month ago, he was slapped with two charges of tax evasion in the local Courts, related to the importation of a luxury car almost five years ago. He has denied those charges and claims that the charges filed against him are politically motivated.

Mohamed has been on the campaign trail in recent months, traveling across the country and meeting the people who he hopes, will give him their support. (Svetlana Marshall)
