New Education Management Information System launched with support of The World Bank

The Minister of Education in collaboration with the World Bank has launched a new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Education Management Information System (EMIS) aimed at strengthening institutional management, improving efficiency and enhancing the quality of training.

Speaking at the launch, Education Minister, Sonia Parag said the new system will provide real time monitoring of the student’s journey from application and enrollment to training and the issuance of certificates.

She said the system will also allow the Ministry to track programme performance, assess equipment and facility needs, identify gaps in service delivery and make informed decisions to improve the quality of technical and vocational training.

“And so, this here is going to help us be more efficient, it is going to help us to be a well-informed and everything will be falling under one platform which is quite convenient for us, switching from one platform to the next is never convenient if you are looking for efficiency and if you are looking to deliver with efficiency,’ the Minister noted.

The Minister also noted that data gathered through the system will be used to support and tweak policies as it becomes necessary for the TVET sector, especially to ensure that students receive the training and certification needed to contribute meaningfully to the workforce and their communities.

She noted that the development of the TVET sector is critical, given that not every child in the school system will take an academic path. Therefore, she noted, TVET will be a central part of the school’s curriculum.

“In addition to academic, we are training you with life-long skills and flexible skills, it means if you are not academically inclined, you can train with a particular skill that will help you to earn, that will help you to give back to your community, that will help you to have dignity in the fact that you have a certificate,” the Minister noted.

The Minister said the platform is expected to support more efficient operations by consolidating information and providing greater oversight of the sector’s programmes and institutions.

Among other things, the EMIS system will improve data management and record-keeping. It will also provide information on the number of trainees and the programmes being offered, and programmes that are in demand.
