The new US Ambassador to Guyana, Sarah Ann Lynch, presented her credentials to President David Granger this morning, and promised that the US Government will continue its work and cooperation with Guyana.
She said the US and Guyana “share a spirit of community with dynamic expatriate and diaspora communities and we both know the importance of fostering a multi-cultural society”.
The new US Ambassador said she is proud with the work between Guyana and the US in the past years and with elections on the horizon, the US encourages genuinely free and fair elections.
Ambassador Lynch also said that she believes that together, the US and Guyana can build on the new economic opportunities that are becoming available in Guyana.
“The United States supports Guyana as you use your resources to invest in infrastructure, increase bilateral trade, diversify the economy and strengthen social services. At this moment of incredible potential, we must continue to rely on each other”.
In accepting the credentials, President David Granger said the relations between Guyana and the US have cemented cooperation in the fields of commerce, defence, the economy, energy, public health, public security and youth empowerment.
“Our relations are founded on mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, mutual non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, cooperation for mutual benefit, respect for treaties and international law and the maintenance of regional peace and security. We share the values of respect for the rule of law and civil rights”, he noted.
According to the President, Guyana is committed to ensuring that the Caribbean and the South American continent remain a zone of peace, adding that Peace in the region could be endangered by transnational threats such as trafficking in people, weapons and narcotics; money laundering; illegal migration; environmental hazards and territorial aggressions.
He also noted that Guyana welcomes investment from foreign firms and will continue to work towards ensuring a safe, stable and secure environment for investors.
