No hospitalised COVID-19 cases in Guyana

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic was first recorded in Guyana two years ago, the hospitals across the country are free of COVID-19 cases.

The Ministry of Health in its daily COVID-19 dashboard reported today that while there are 93 active cases of the virus, including 8 new cases, none of those cases have been referred to hospital care.

The last hospitalised patient was discharged overnight from the COVID-19 hospital at Lilliendaal and there has been no other admission since.

The COVID-19 infection rate in Guyana has been declining steadily over the past two months with the number of new and active cases declining significantly.

Guyana relaxed most of its COVID-19 restrictions just over a month ago, but Health Officials continue to encourage persons to protect themselves against the virus and to practice other safety measures.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health continues to encourage citizens to get fully vaccinated. More than 65% of Guyana’s adult population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with more than 85% receiving at least a first dose of one of the vaccines.

Health officials believe the high vaccination rate has contributed to the decline in the spread of the virus.
