A handyman who locked up the building and was the last to leave told investigators that when he arrived the following morning, he noticed that locks to one of the doors had been removed.

The Durban Backlands former home of ex-President David Granger which now houses an office and his youth foundation was vandalised with thieves carting off more than $600,000 worth of items including computers that were installed for children in the community to use.

The incident occurred sometime between the night of April 24 and the following morning.

A handyman who locked up the building and was the last to leave told investigators that when he arrived the following morning, he noticed that locks to one of the doors had been removed.

He immediately contacted Mr. Granger and when he got to the scene, they discovered that a 52-television set along with four computer systems and a printer, and other items were missing.

The Police were called to the scene and launched a full investigation.  News Source understands that while there is a security guard and handyman present at the building throughout the day, there was no security at nights.

The former President now lives at Pearl on the East Bank of Demerara.
