In separate New Year’s messages, the Leader of the People’s National Congress, Aubrey Norton and Leader of the We Invest in Nationhood party party Azruddin Mohamed, vowed to continue to expose corruption in Government.
In his New Year’s message, Mr. Norton said despite the abundance of oil resources, poverty still remains high throughout the country, while only a few benefit from the country’s oil wealth.
He said the new year presents an opportunity for the Government to reallocate resources to the benefit of those who need it the most.
“2026 offers us the opportunity to reallocate the resources from oil in a way that the people of Guyana should benefit. In this regard, the government should change the pattern of allocation of resources from benefiting the few and making the rich richer and poor, poorer,” Mr. Norton said.
Mr. Norton said the Government must adopt a posture where it will put people first, vowing that his party will do everything to keep the government on its toes.
“In 2026, it is the task of the Opposition to continue exposing corruption, mismanagement, wastage and incompetence with the aim of ensuring that the resources of the society benefit the people of Guyana,” Norton said
Norton urged the Government to foster a better relationship with Trade Unions this year.
For his part, Mr. Mohamed said he believes that his party has changed the political dynamics in the country, and will not only fight for the poor, but will also hold the Government to account.
“Win enters 2026 with a clear purpose, to serve as a voice for the voiceless. We have highlighted numerous issues about schools, hospitals, health centers, mounting garbage and many more, which this reactive government only addressed afterwards,” Mr. Mohamed stated.
He said despite the Government’s apparent efforts to stymie the election of the leader of the opposition, his party will continue to expose corruption wherever it exists.
